About the museum
The museum opened in 1949 as the Musée du Vieux Pully. The German patron couple Hermann and Jennie Lührs-Patterson gave their winegrower's house to the town on the condition that a museum about old Pully be established there. The Association du Vieux Pully, founded in 1946, helped build the collection. The first curator, Maxime Vallotton, a nephew of the painter Félix Vallotton, acquired the painting "Le port de Pully" and other masterpieces in 1950. At first the focus was on preserving the village heritage; gradually the house turned toward the visual arts.
After renovations it was called the Musée de Pully from 1968. In 1991, following extensive work, it reopened with 14 rooms, and after further work in 2012 it took the name Musée d’art de Pully. The program combines contemporary art, historical art of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and collaborations with partners such as the Cinémathèque suisse or the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art.
The collection includes, among other things, the Fonds Cailler with more than 800 prints, works by François Bocion and Marius Borgeaud, graphic works by Zao Wou-Ki, and deposits relating to Albert-Edgar Yersin, Germaine Ernst and Jaques Berger. The town's other museums include the ArchéoLab at the Villa romaine and the La Muette literary house devoted to C. F. Ramuz.
