About the museum

The museum is located in the main fortification, the Mösliflue (also spelled Möslifluh), on the Büchel near Benken. It belongs to the Festungswerke oberer Buchberg (Upper Buchberg fortifications), a protected ensemble of nine installations dating from 1939 and from 1940/41. It includes dams for flooding the Linth plain, anti-tank ditches, anti-tank obstacles, bunkers and a large rock fortification. The complex as a whole has been preserved.

During World War II the fortification served as a base for the troops. Later, under the code name “ZL Burg,” it was the army's materiel depot for the resistance regions of eastern Switzerland. Here were stored the supplies that would have been needed to resist in the event of an occupation.

Since 2009 the Mösliflue has housed the “Musée résistance suisse 1940.” Across 24 panels and several documentary films, it tells the 50-year history of resistance preparations, which were carried across political parties and denominations and continued through the Cold War until 1990. Visits take place in registered groups, with a film and a talk.
