About the museum

The Ortsmuseum Rebstein has been housed since 1982 in the so-called “Spritzenhaus”, the village’s former fire station depot on Bergstrasse next to the Protestant church. It shows the municipality’s local history collection in the Rhine Valley.

A special piece is the oldest documented hand embroidery machine, along with accessories from the embroidery industry that shaped the village for a long time. Further rooms and display cases are devoted to optical instruments and to equipment from viticulture, agriculture, forestry and crafts. Photographs as well as oil paintings and watercolors by the painter Carlos Schneider (1889–1932) complete the collection.

Another attraction is the tower clock of the Catholic church from 1887, which still works. The building is looked after by the local municipality and is not open regularly; two contact persons from the municipality open it on request.
