About the museum
The Turbenthal Museum Association was founded in 1988 by idealists and has since operated the Turbenthal local museum in the heritage-protected Stiefelhaus on Tösstalstrasse. As early as the 1980s, the founders had been collecting regional objects to save the evidence of a rural, craft-based and self-sufficient way of life that disappeared quickly after the war.
This collection is now on display at the Schaudepot Tösstal at Schulstrasse 2 in Turbenthal. Across 600 square meters, around 3,000 regional history objects from the period between 1770 and today tell of the development of the Tösstal and Tössberg region, from smallholder farming through industrialization to a service economy. There is also a regional history library with about 550 media items, including the books of children's and youth author Olga Meyer, maps of the region and school textbooks from Turbenthal.
The Schaudepot is deliberately regional in focus and is intended to take in collections from surrounding municipalities and institutions in the future. The first was the collection of the Wila local museum, which closed in June 2026; it opened in the Schaudepot on September 13, 2026. On open days there are participatory activities, and thematic tours and workshops are offered for school classes.
