About the museum
Since 1996 the Ortsmuseum Weisslingen has been housed in the village centre in the old fire station of 1929, the "Sprützehüüsli". The museum opened when the building was inaugurated. It is run by the Historischer Verein Weisslingen, which is dedicated to fostering historical awareness in the municipality, researching local history, protecting archaeological sites and collecting cultural testimonies.
Two rooms display old objects from the municipality on the themes of fire fighting, crafts, health, household, customs and traditions, agriculture, school, office, children's games and the military. In addition, eight focal points of local history are presented on boards: the early period (La Tène), the Roman era, the association's own excavations, the castle, the mill, field names, the oldest documents and the parish register.
The Moos AG textile factory, known in the village as "Moosi" and founded in 1798, is of particular significance; the association devoted an exhibition trilogy and an accompanying book to it. Alongside the permanent exhibition, the museum holds special exhibitions several times a year. The museum also runs a Chronikstube (chronicle room), which collects objects, documents, books and films on the history of Weisslingen.
