About the museum

Since 2007 the old depot at the Weissenbühl tram stop on the edge of Bern has served as a museum. It houses a large part of the historic rail vehicles of Bern's local public transport, plus a contextual collection and a small exhibition on the history of public transport in the Bern region. Vintage buses can also be seen here.

The vehicles range from the steam tram of 1894 through tram sets from 1910, 1935, 1947 and 1960 to the articulated tram of 1973; among the buses, from the "Schnauzenbus" of 1924 to articulated buses and trolleybuses from the 1960s and 1970s. The collection is supported by the BERNMOBIL historique foundation, established in 2018 and brought into being by BERNMOBIL, the Tramverein Bern and the Berner Tramway-Gesellschaft. Apart from the managing director, everyone involved works on a voluntary basis; the Tram-Museum is also looked after by the supporters' association Tramverein Bern. The vehicles can be seen on the public vintage operating days, when historic trams and buses are additionally in service for round trips; for groups, the foundation organises guided tours of the museum on request.
