About the museum

The Berkshire Yeomanry Museum was founded in 1974 and illustrates the history of the Berkshire Yeomanry, which has served since 1794. The collection shows the roles, arms and uniforms of the regiment from its earliest days, through the Boer War and the two World Wars, to deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan in the 21st century.

The regiment fought at Gallipoli in 1915, in Palestine in 1917 and on the Western Front in 1918. It served in Indonesia after the Second World War and later took part in operations in the former Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan between 2000 and 2014.

The museum is owned and funded by a small registered charity. Its aims are to educate the public about the regiment, to care for the collection, to uphold regimental traditions and to maintain regimental memorials. The collection is on permanent display inside the Army Reserve Centre in Windsor. In recent years the museum has built up an archive with detailed information about officers and soldiers who served, and its staff regularly answer enquiries from descendants and researchers. The museum has full accreditation under the scheme run by Arts Council England.
