About the museum
Baldocks Mill is the only mill left in the town of Bourne. The Domesday Book of 1086 recorded three mills in Bourne, and there has been a mill on this site since then. The present building is more than 200 years old and takes its name from the Baldock family, the last family to live there.
The mill has been converted and looked after by Bourne Civic Society, which runs it as the town's heritage centre. The displays are spread over three floors. The ground floor shows machinery and agricultural implements, with a viewing window onto the new mill wheels, and hosts changing exhibitions. A small shop area sells books, cards and memorabilia.
The middle floor holds a permanent exhibition on the racing driver Raymond Mays, including photographs and the story of the ERA and BRM racing cars, together with a display on the Paris fashion designer Charles Frederick Worth. The top floor covers local history, including the water industry, the railway, wartime Bourne and old household items.
