About the museum

The Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge line of about three-quarters of a mile near the Kent villages of Bredgar and Wormshill, south of Sittingbourne. It is a private line that a group of friends has built up as a hobby since the early 1970s, and it is run by more than fifty volunteers. The main station and the engine sheds are at Warren Wood, with a second station at Stony Shaw at the far end of the line; the buildings, signal boxes and signals were largely built on site by enthusiasts.

The railway's collection includes steam locomotives from several countries, among them engines that worked in Wales, Australia, Germany and Mozambique, as well as diesel locomotives, coaches and wagons. Other exhibits include a Garrett traction engine, portable steam engines, a Dutch street organ and a large G-scale model railway.

The line opens to the public on selected days to raise money for the upkeep of the collection. At present the volunteers are working to restore a listed Victorian footbridge from Garforth station and re-erect it over the line.
