About the museum
Brent Museum and Archives is run by Brent Council and is housed on the second floor of the Library at Willesden Green. Its collections go back to the early twentieth century, when the first Willesden librarian began gathering local material. The museum opened in 1977 as the Grange Museum of Community History in Neasden and was later renamed Brent Museum.
Today the museum holds more than 10,000 objects, videos, oral history recordings and other items showing working and domestic life in Brent from about 1850 to the present day. It also presents free temporary exhibitions, which combine newly acquired objects, items that have been in storage for decades and loans from other museums.
The archive keeps photographs, postcards, documents, council records and building plans, electoral registers, maps, street directories, school records, records of local groups and local newspapers dating back to 1870. Researchers can consult it by appointment.
