About the museum
Brightlingsea Museum was founded in 1989 and is run by volunteers as a registered charity. It tells the story of a seaside town on the Essex coast with a harbour, a beach, a lido and a promenade.
In 2020 the museum moved into new purpose-built premises at Dove House on Station Road. The galleries are on one level, and the displays include interactive elements and things for visitors to try. The volunteers also design themed window displays that change through the year.
Visitors can follow two trails: the Bricklesey Mouse Trail for younger children and the Town Heritage Trail for families and adults. A small gift shop sells souvenirs. From time to time the museum holds a conservation day when recently restored objects are put on show.
