About the museum

Airworld Aviation Museum stands on the airfield of the former RAF Llandwrog at Dinas Dinlle, near Caernarfon. The airfield reopened in 1969 as Caernarfon Airport. The museum opened in 1988 in a purpose-built hangar on the airfield and is run as a registered charity.

The collection includes military aircraft such as a Hawker Hunter, a de Havilland Vampire, a Hawker Sea Hawk and a BAe Harrier T2, together with helicopters, cockpit and nose sections and a large amount of aviation memorabilia. Visitors can get close to some of the historic aircraft, and the museum stands on an active airfield.

One part of the museum tells the story of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, which was started at RAF Llandwrog in 1942. Other displays look at the wartime airfields of North Wales. The museum also has a gift shop with model kits and souvenirs.
