About the museum
The Camera Museum began in 1999 as the Tang Cafe on Museum Street, opposite the British Museum, run by the brothers Patrick and Adrian Tang. Patrick, a keen camera collector, added a camera business in the basement, and over time the camera dealership and the coffee shop became one business that attracts photographers, artists, writers, students and tourists.
Adrian Tang then established the Camera Museum, which combines a specialist dealership and repair service for Hasselblad, Rolleiflex and Fujifilm cameras with a museum gallery. The gallery presents a timeline of cameras of all kinds, from the 19th century to the digital age. The museum notes that around 40,000 different types of camera have been made and aims to preserve examples from every era.
The museum describes itself as a non-profit gallery and is a member of the Association of Independent Museums. It accepts donations of camera equipment and relies on donations and shop purchases.
