About the museum
The Clan Donnachaidh Museum opened in 1969 and was opened by the Duke of Atholl; it is regarded as the first purpose-built clan museum in Scotland. It stands next to the House of Bruar, just off the A9 north of Pitlochry, and forms part of the Clan Donnachaidh Centre, which also houses the clan society’s base.
The museum presents the history and heritage of Clan Donnachaidh, whose principal surnames are Robertson, Duncan and Reid and which is noted as the only Scottish clan still using its Gaelic name. Its displays include Jacobite-era artefacts, relics, documents, weapons and traditional clothing. Beside the museum stands a bronze monument to the 51st Highland Division.
