About the museum
The heritage centre is housed in Moulin Kirk, a church dedicated to St Colm or St Colman. A church is thought to have stood on the site since at least 1613. The building was enlarged in the 18th century, rebuilt in 1830 and 1831, and rebuilt again in 1875 after a fire. It closed for worship in 1989, and by the early 2000s it needed work to be made wind and watertight.
In 2004 the church was bought by the owners of the Moulin Hotel, who wanted to create a heritage centre inside it. Local residents formed the Moulin Kirk Trust, a volunteer-run charity, which set up and ran the Pitlochry and Moulin Heritage Centre. Its displays covered early life in the area, medieval life around the Black Castle of Moulin, old shops and trading in Pitlochry, local families, and the flax and linen trade in Moulin, together with a display of old postcards.
The centre is now closed while repairs to the church are awaited, and the trustees are looking for other premises for the archive.
