About the museum
Cobbaton Combat Collection grew from a hobby that got out of hand. Preston Isaac began collecting military vehicles and equipment, and in 1981 the collection was opened to the public at Cobbaton near Chittlehampton in North Devon. It has kept growing ever since and is still a family-run attraction.
The exhibits are mostly from the Second World War and the years 1939 to 1945. They include tanks, trucks, armoured cars, guns, helmets, artillery and grenades, alongside home front objects such as ration books, gas masks, ARP and Home Guard material and blackout lamps. The collection reaches back to the Boer War and the First World War and forward to the Falklands and the first Gulf War, with kit from British, Canadian, American and Russian forces.
A large shop on site stocks collectors items, inert ammunition, clothing, badges, survival equipment, books and souvenirs. A canteen has been part of open days, and the museum's website points visitors to its Facebook page for the latest news and event dates.
