About the museum
Cranbrook Museum is run by the Cranbrook Museum and Local History Society, which trades as the registered charity Cranbrook Museum and Local History CIO. The museum stands in Carriers Road in the centre of the Kent town of Cranbrook, and it is staffed by volunteers.
The museum shows the history of Cranbrook and its surroundings through changing displays in the ground-floor reception area and through the sections of its website on the Cranbrook Colony of artists and on local transport. A short audio-visual display in reception shows a brief tour of the museum and local history films.
The society also publishes the Cranbrook Journal, which has appeared since 1988, and offers a research service for the museum archives. A meeting room in the building is used for talks and evening events with speakers. The museum has an education service for schools, with visits, outreach sessions and loan boxes of artefacts and replicas.
