About the museum
Cricklade Museum was set up by the Cricklade Historical Society, which still looks after it. The society's stated aim is to collect, conserve, research, interpret and give public access to objects linked to the Cricklade district, and so to encourage knowledge of local history.
Despite its small size the museum holds more than 12,000 items. Its main strength is material from the 19th and 20th centuries, and one of its most popular displays is a woodworking tools corner called Grandad's workshop. Its archive includes local family history records, family trees, maps and a properties index, and visitors can send a research enquiry about family names or local history.
The society also runs an events programme of talks, held in the Town Hall Annex, and guided walks. Cricklade Pottery has its own page on the museum website, and the museum shop sells local history books, including a book on VE Day.
