About the museum
The Visitor Centre at Chingford is the City of London Corporation's main information point for Epping Forest, the ancient woodland on the north-eastern edge of London. It stands on Rangers Road next to Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge, the Tudor building from 1543.
Inside, permanent galleries introduce the wildlife and the history of the forest, and changing displays and events run throughout the year. Visitors can pick up maps and leaflets to plan walks, buy forest-themed gifts and ask the staff for advice.
The centre also works with schools through its learning team and has a room that can be hired during opening hours. A seasonal visitor guide with walking routes is published each year.
