About the museum
The Great Orme is a limestone headland above Llandudno that forms part of a country park and nature reserve managed by the countryside service of Conwy County Borough Council. Its story reaches from Bronze Age copper mining and the early church of St Tudno to Victorian tourism, and its cliffs hold colonies of seabirds.
The visitor centre stands at the summit complex and introduces this landscape to visitors. Its displays include models, interactive digital activities and films on the wildlife and history of the headland. Visitors can watch the seabird colonies through a live video link and look for rock pool creatures in an aquarium. The lantern from the former Llandudno lighthouse, which was decommissioned in 1985, is also shown here.
The centre also serves as a starting point for walks on the Great Orme, and walking leaflets and maps for the country park are available there.
