About the museum

The Hardy company has made fishing tackle in Alnwick since 1872. The firm began as a family business of brothers, and in 1887 it moved into larger premises on Bondgate, where it kept making rods, reels and hand-tied flies for many decades. The name became known to anglers all over the world, and today Hardy is part of the Pure Fishing group while still making its tackle in the town.

In 2021 Hardy opened The Hardy Store and Museum at 30 Bondgate Within, in the centre of Alnwick, as its flagship store ahead of the brand's 150th anniversary. The building has high ceilings and an open floor, and as well as selling current Hardy tackle it houses a museum that traces the company's history through the years. The store also shows how Hardy products are made, to underline that the factory has stayed in Alnwick.

The museum is part of the working store rather than a separate attraction, so visits are usually combined with browsing the shop.
