About the museum
The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum in Duns, in the Scottish Borders, honours the two-time Formula One World Champion Jim Clark, who grew up farming in Berwickshire. After his death in 1968 his parents gave his trophies to be shown in the town, and the original Jim Clark Memorial Room opened in Duns in 1969.
The present museum opened to the public on 11 July 2019 and was officially opened on 29 August 2019 by Sir Jackie Stewart. It is run by the Jim Clark Trust, a Scottish charity, and has won awards.
The main exhibition room shows a changing selection of Clark’s race cars, loaned by their owners and displayed under a vaulted ceiling with a 1960s race garage soundtrack. Cars on show include a Lotus 38 from the Indianapolis 500, a Lotus 33 Formula One car, a Lotus 35 Formula Two car and the Lotus Cortina saloon. A modern recreation of the original Jim Clark Room holds more than 130 trophies, medals and items of memorabilia, including his 1963 and 1965 World Championship trophies and the Golden Helmet given to him in 1965.
Photography, archive film shown on a touch-screen cinema, interactive displays and a dedicated gallery with a yearly changing theme complete the visit. The Trust also runs the Jim Clark Trail, a driving route in the Scottish Borders, and the Jim Clark Café Bistro in Duns Town Square.
