About the museum
The Town House in Kirriemuir dates from 1604. After a restoration it opened in 2001 as the Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum, telling the story of the town and of the Angus Glens around it. The displays included a model of Kirriemuir as it was in 1604, material on the local geology and wildlife, and sections about two famous names linked to the town: J M Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, and Bon Scott of the rock band AC/DC.
The museum was run by the charitable trust Angus Alive until it was handed back to Angus Council. It closed in October 2023.
A local volunteer-run charity, the Kirriemuir Regeneration Group, has announced plans to take over the building from the council and run it as a community-owned museum. It would show local history, hold events and support local makers and performers. No reopening date had been announced by October 2026.
