About the museum
The Heritage Centre occupies the ground floor of the Old Grammar School, a long, low timber-framed building at the top of Church Lane. It dates from the late 15th century and is listed Grade II*. It served as a schoolroom and master’s house, and the school continued into the 19th century.
Afterwards the building was divided into small flats. The internal divisions were removed in 1969 and the house was restored to become the local history museum for Ledbury.
Today the centre is run by the charity Ledbury Places with volunteer stewards. Displays show the history of the town and its buildings, with a model of the Old Grammar School, a Neolithic flint axe head and objects that visitors can handle. A glass panel in the floor shows the old stream bed beneath the building.
