About the museum
The Lillie Art Gallery in Milngavie has welcomed residents, visitors and artists for more than 60 years. It exists thanks to Robert Lillie (1867–1949), a local banker and artist, who left a substantial number of his own artworks to the community together with funds to build a gallery.
The gallery shows exhibitions throughout the year, and it also presents works from its own collection, which includes paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture and ceramics. It is run by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust as part of the local heritage and arts programme.
The building stands directly opposite Milngavie railway station, close to the start of the West Highland Way. A shop sells souvenirs, cards, prints and handmade crafts, and a virtual 360-degree tour of the gallery is available online.
