About the museum
The Manx Electric Railway began regular services in 1893 and still runs along the east coast from Douglas through Laxey to Ramsey. Its museum opened to visitors on 1 June 2014 in the former goods shed at the Derby Castle depot, a short distance from the Douglas terminus.
The displays cover the beginnings and development of the electric railway with information boards, historical artefacts and items visitors can look at and handle. Trams and trailers are usually shown in the depot yard during opening hours so that visitors can photograph them, and books, postcards, tram stop signs and souvenirs are on sale.
The museum is open on Sundays during the operating season and admission is free, with donations welcome.
