About the museum
Michael Bruce (1746 to 1767), sometimes called the Gentle Poet of Loch Leven, was born and died in the village of Kinnesswood. The cottage on The Cobbles where he lived was bought in 1868 to serve as a memorial to him, and it opened to the public as a museum in July 1906 after his supporters had restored it.
The museum is looked after by the Michael Bruce Memorial Trust with help from people in the village, who also tend the cottage and its garden. Inside are manuscripts connected with the poet and editions of his poems, together with many objects of local interest, including tools once used in the parchment and vellum trade of Kinnesswood.
