About the museum
The museum was launched in 2015 by the British Phil Silvers Appreciation Society and opened officially on 1 November 2015, the thirtieth anniversary of the death of the American comedian and actor Phil Silvers, best known for the television series The Phil Silvers Show. It began inside the shop Sgt Bilko's Vintage Emporium, run by Steve Everitt, a founder of the appreciation society, and is said to be the only museum in the world dedicated to Silvers.
The displays are made up of items donated by members of Silvers' family and by former colleagues. They include personal belongings, posters, photographs, letters and books, and a vintage television that shows episodes of the series. The museum is in Unit 2C of FarGo Village, a village of shops and workshops on Far Gosford Street in Coventry, and shares its space with the shop, which sells film and television memorabilia, comics and Silvers merchandise.
