About the museum
The Roddy McCorley Republican Heritage Museum is part of the Roddy McCorley Republican Heritage Centre at Moyard House on Glen Road in West Belfast, which also has a restaurant, a bar and lounge, and a function space. The museum was purpose-built when the centre was redeveloped.
Its collection has been assembled by the Roddy McCorley Society over about forty years. It presents roughly 200 years of Irish republican history, from the Society of United Irishmen and the 1798 Rebellion through the revolutionary period around 1916 and the conflict to the peace process of the 1990s.
Exhibits include weapons of the United Irishmen, items from the Easter Rising, Tom Williams's last handwritten letter, material from Long Kesh and the H-Blocks, and artwork by Irish prisoners. Some items had not been shown to the public before.
