About the museum
Session Cottage is a small museum in Turriff in Aberdeenshire, run by the Turriff and District Heritage Society. The cottage was once the home of the session clerk, the main administrative officer of the parish. It is kept as a typical example of a rural cottage of the 19th century.
The society was formed in 1979, and furnishing the two-room cottage in the style of around 1900 was its first project. The rooms are arranged as a home of that time, with furniture, furnishings, household equipment, clothing and personal belongings of people who lived in Turriff between about 1880 and 1900.
The cottage stands on Castle Street, a short walk from the society's main museum in the Municipal Buildings on the High Street. According to the society, the cottage opens during the summer months, run by volunteers.
