About the museum
The museum was founded in 1995 as the Sheffield Bus Museum Trust Limited. It was based at Tinsley from 1997 to 2007 before moving to its present premises on Waddington Way in Rotherham. It is an accredited museum run by volunteers as a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, and it relies on admission fees, donations, grants, sponsorship and vehicle hire.
The collection has more than 50 historic vehicles, including vintage buses, classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles, lorries and commercial vehicles, many restored by volunteers, along with transport memorabilia and interactive exhibits. The site has about 24,000 square feet of exhibition space.
The museum opens to the public on one Sunday a month. On open days visitors can take free short rides on selected historic buses, and a free heritage shuttle bus links the museum with Rotherham Interchange.
