About the museum

The museum stands on the airfield at Manston in east Kent, one of the few surviving airfields that took part in the Battle of Britain. During the Second World War the station was only about ten minutes' flying time from occupied France.

The museum is a registered charity and is run with the help of volunteers. Its central exhibits are a Supermarine Spitfire Mk XVI(LF) TB752, which saw combat in 1945, and a Hawker Hurricane IIc LF751. Around them are objects used by the men and women who served, together with accounts of their lives.

The site also includes the Allied Aircrew Memorial garden, where services are held, and visitors can try flight simulators that use genuine Spitfire controls. Entry to the museum is free and it depends on donations.
