About the museum

This Museum Is (Not) Obsolete in Ramsgate, Kent, was launched in 2020 by the musician and inventor Sam Battle, who is also known as Look Mum No Computer. Its aim is to keep obsolete scientific and musical technology alive and in use so that visitors can experience it.

The museum is housed in a building at 5–7 Church Hill and shows vintage electronics, synthesisers and experimental instruments, including items built by Battle himself and pieces given by others. Hands-on interaction is part of the idea, and exhibits such as test equipment set-ups and a Powertran Transcendent 2000 display have been featured. A 1914 church organ that Battle began restoring in 2022 is also an exhibit, and live coding sessions on a church organ have been held.

On weekend mornings the museum is used for private recording sessions, so that artists and musicians can use instruments they would not normally have access to. The museum opens to the public on weekend afternoons.
