About the museum
The museum is housed in The Keep, a Grade II listed building at Gibraltar Barracks in Bury St Edmunds, on the site of the former Suffolk Regiment depot. It tells the story of the Suffolk Regiment and the Cambridgeshire Regiment, whose histories continue today through the Royal Anglian Regiment.
The collection includes medals, among them the regiment’s Victoria Cross awards, drums, brooches and other regimental objects. A regimental archive can be searched on request by researchers and families tracing former soldiers, for a small fee, and a virtual tour of the museum is available on screen in the building and on the website.
In addition to The Keep, the museum has a small changing display at Moyse’s Hall Museum in the town centre, and items are shown in local museums at March, Wisbech and Ely. The museum is a charity run by volunteer trustees and receives no government grants, relying on visitor donations.
