About the museum
Swansea Bus Museum is run by the South Wales Transport Preservation Group, a registered charity. The group restores and operates buses that were once central to how people in South Wales travelled to work, school and leisure, and aims to preserve this transport history for future generations.
The collection centres on vehicles connected with South Wales operators, with single-deckers, double-deckers and coaches. They include buses of South Wales Transport, a number of AEC Regent and Bristol types, and vehicles from independent and neighbouring operators such as Western Welsh. A few London Transport buses, including Routemasters, are also in the collection. Many vehicles were bought from private owners, rallies or other preservation groups and were restored by volunteers, some back to their original liveries.
Besides the vehicles, the museum has displays, a model railway and a Grand Prix raceway. Volunteers are on hand to talk visitors through the collection. On running days, vintage buses carry passengers on local routes.
The museum also offers drive-a-bus experiences, school sessions on local history, transport and social change, and the hire of restored buses for weddings, proms and photography. It has Visit Wales accreditation and is linked with the National Association of Road Transport Museums and the National Transport Trust.
