About the museum

The Teifi Valley Railway uses part of the former branch line between Llandysul and Newcastle Emlyn, which opened in 1895 with one intermediate station at Henllan. Passenger trains stopped running in 1952 and goods trains ended in 1973. Henllan station closed in 1965.

A company set up in the early 1970s bought the trackbed, and the narrow-gauge heritage railway opened to the public in 1986. It runs on a 2 ft (610 mm) gauge, unlike the standard-gauge original line, and the platform at Henllan was moved back to its original position in 2009.

The railway stopped running for a time in 2014 after safety concerns, and a new management team has been in charge since then. Today it is run entirely by volunteers.

A visit centres on the station yard at Henllan. A combined ticket covers the main-line train to Pontprenshitw, where a waterfall and an old leat can be seen from the platform area, and a short ride on the Pixie train up the hill past the engine shed. The site also has a café, a gift shop, a soft play area, an outdoor park and crazy golf. In December the railway runs pre-booked Christmas trains.
