About the museum
The Welsh Guards Collection was started in 1995 by its curator Stan Evans and has grown into a regimental collection of more than two thousand items on display. It covers life in the Welsh Guards since the regiment was formed in 1915.
The collection is housed at Park Hall near Oswestry, where it is one of the museums on the Park Hall Countryside Experience site. Volunteers tell the stories behind the objects.
Displays include a complete barrack room from the 1950s and 1960s, a sentry box from Buckingham Palace and a rebuilt cell from the Guards Depot at Caterham dating from 1877. Further exhibits deal with the world wars, and visitors can try on home service uniform, stand in the sentry box and experience a cell.
