About the museum
Woodbridge Museum tells the history of the Suffolk town of Woodbridge from Saxon times to the present day. It stands in Whisstock's Place in the historic Whisstocks area of the waterfront, beside the Woodbridge Tide Mill and a few minutes' walk from the railway station. The museum is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by donations from visitors and supporters; it is a charitable incorporated organisation governed by a board of trustees.
One highlight is a mannequin wearing a replica uniform of a soldier of G Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, in 1815, the troop that was at the Battle of Waterloo. The museum also shows artefacts from the 1939 excavations at Sutton Hoo, which lies directly across the River Deben.
The museum has a family area with a Creative Corner, activity sheets and a spot-the-cat trail, and a small shop sells local crafts, books and souvenirs in aid of the museum. In summer the museum offers guided walks along the Woodbridge Heritage Trail, which start at the museum, and it welcomes group visits by arrangement.
