About the museum
Woodchurch Village Life Museum stands on Susans Hill, a short distance from the centre of Woodchurch in Kent. The village lies seven miles from Ashford and five miles from Tenterden. The museum is run by the Woodchurch Heritage Trust and is housed in an oak-framed barn from the eighteenth century and a seventeenth-century cart shed.
The collection brings together wagons, small coins and everyday objects that range from the Stone Age to the present day. Every item has a link to the parish of Woodchurch, which has about 2,500 residents, so the displays give a close picture of one rural community over many centuries.
The museum is an AIM Accredited Museum and has received National Lottery funding through Arts Council England. It takes part in the Wheels of Time project with other Kent museums. It is also a Public Learning Destination for the Children's University, with quiz activities for children aged five to fourteen. A lawn beside the museum is available for picnics.
