Lemwerder, Germany, 15 October 2026 – MuseumsAtlas, the independent museum guide behind museumsatlas.com, is now available as a free app for iPhone and iPad on the App Store. The app brings together more than 15,000 museums in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Denmark and the Czech Republic on one map – with everything you need to plan a museum visit: opening hours including seasonal times and closing days, admission prices and discounts, permanent and temporary exhibitions, directions and accessibility.
“Anyone who wants to visit a museum on the spur of the moment tends to ask the same questions: What’s open right now, how much is admission, and can I get in easily with a wheelchair or a pushchair? MuseumsAtlas answers them at a glance – at home as well as on the go,” says Christoph Hein, founder of MuseumsAtlas.
Find the right museum in seconds
At the heart of the app is a map for exploring museums around your current location or at your travel destination. Search by museum, city or topic, sorting by distance (“Nearby”) and quick filters such as “Open now” or “Free admission” make spontaneous decisions easy. Tapping a point on the map shows a photo, a short description, the opening status and the admission price; each museum page then brings together all the details, from the photo gallery to tickets and the website. Overviews by country, region and category – from art & design and technology to castles & palaces – invite you to browse.
A focus on accessibility and families
Detailed filters show which museums are wheelchair accessible or have a lift, an accessible toilet or disabled parking, whether companions get in free, and whether there are tactile offers, sign language tours, easy-read information or audio description. Families can look specifically for museums with family tours, activity booklets, hands-on stations, baby changing facilities, a play area or a family ticket. The app itself is accessible too, with a larger display option, higher contrast and a read-aloud function for every museum page.
For museums in Germany, an exhibition calendar also lists current and upcoming temporary exhibitions – with filters such as “Just opened”, “Closing soon” or “Near me” (currently in the German version of the app).
Free, no account, no ads
The app is free of charge, contains no advertising and requires no sign-up. Favourite museums and exhibitions can be saved to a list with a single tap; the list is stored on the device only.
MuseumsAtlas is available in English, German, French, Dutch, Danish and Czech.
Carefully researched – together with the museums
All information is researched individually for each museum and updated continuously, increasingly with direct support from the museums themselves, which contribute corrections and photos. Errors can be reported straight from the app.
