Bombardierung von Borsberg im März 1945

Commemorates the air raid on the neighboring village of Borsberg on March 2, 1945, with eyewitness accounts and research from chronicles and records.

Over het museum

The museum is located in Reitzendorf, a village in the Schönfelder Hochland east of Dresden that only became part of the city in 1999. The listed three-sided farmstead, consisting of a combined house and stable, a retirement house and a barn, dates from the 18th and early 19th centuries; a carpenter's mark points to around 1820. The smallholders farmed about two hectares of fields and meadows, kept cows as draft animals and earned extra income in the Pillnitz market gardens.

Because the cramped farmstead was hard to modernize, it remained largely as it had been in the early 20th century until the last residents moved out in 1983/84. The household goods they left behind form the core of the collection, supplemented by the collection of a local historian and donations from residents.

The Heimatverein Schönfelder Hochland (local history association), founded in 1991, set up the museum and opened it on October 3, 1992; it has run the museum ever since and has its headquarters here. On view are the living room, bedrooms, cowshed, hallway with bread oven, barn with threshing floor, and farming and transport equipment in the garden. Special exhibitions change in the retirement house, complemented by farmyard festivals, readings and educational projects for children. The association is planning a new project barn for this work.
