Over het museum
Robert Schuman, one of the founders of the European Union, bought this rural house dating from the late 18th century in spring 1926 and lived there until his death in 1963. It is built in the style of the wine-growing villages of the Metz region.
The Moselle department has managed the site since January 2000 and opened it to the public on May 9, 2000. The house was restored in 2004 to recapture the atmosphere of the early 1960s: a set table, books beside the bed and simple furniture convey the image of a modest interior.
A museum extension, inaugurated on May 9, 2009, offers an interactive and digital trail that tells the story of European integration from antiquity to Schuman's projects. The garden has been restored to its 1960–1963 state, with a kitchen garden, a shade garden and a graphic garden.
The site received the “Patrimoine européen” label in 2007 and the “Maisons des Illustres” label in 2011.
