Moulin Forville – musée Victor-Tuby

Over het museum

The Moulin Forville is a former oil mill that belonged to the abbey in the 14th century and became national property during the Revolution. François Tuby bought it in 1905. His son, the sculptor and painter Victor Tuby, settled there after 1919, lived and worked there, and founded the Académie provençale de Cannes.

When Victor Tuby’s widow died in 1975, the mill and its collections were bequeathed to a learned society, on condition that it turn them into a museum. An association was founded in 1993 to preserve and manage the mill and open the museum to the public; in 1998, by a ruling of the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal, it obtained the furniture and collections. The City of Cannes, owner of the building since 1995, must put in place the conditions for this opening.

The site was presented as open by appointment, with Victor Tuby’s sculpture studio, collections of costumes and traditional Provençal objects, the mill’s pieces with a reconstructed press, and the sculptor’s car, restored. It is now announced as closed for works until 2027.
