Over het museum
Since 1971 the museum has been housed in the vaulted cellars of the former castle of the counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg, built in 1717 by Count Jean-René III. The building was converted into a church in 1804.
The collections relate largely to the Gallo-Roman period. Architectural remains, carved steles, craftsmen's tools, coins and local pottery illustrate the culture and daily life of the inhabitants of Brocomagus, the ancient name of Brumath, which was then the civil capital of Alsace.
The museum is run by the Société d'Histoire et d'Archéologie de Brumath et Environs (SHABE), which opens it during its annual events.
