Tijdelijk gesloten (naar verwachting tot 2027). Because of building works, the museum is closed for the whole of the 2026-2027 academic year. No precise reopening date has been announced.

Over het museum

The museum was founded in 1904 by Paul Perdrizet, the first professor of archaeology and art history at the University of Nancy and son-in-law of Émile Gallé. It was first located at the corner of Place Carnot and Rue de Serre in the town centre. The original site was almost entirely destroyed by a German bombardment on October 31, 1918.

The surviving pieces were brought together in building A of the Lettres et Sciences Humaines campus, where the museum has been housed since 1965. The display furniture made by the Établissements Gallé (a cabinet and display cases) was listed as a historic monument in 2015 and restored in 2017.

The collections comprise around 650 original objects (ceramics, terracotta figurines, bronzes, glass, faience, wood), of which more than 400 belong to the university; most of the others are loans from the Louvre. They come from Greece, Asia Minor, the Near East, Cyprus, Egypt, Italy and France, and span from the 14th century BCE to the 5th–6th century CE. Plaster casts of sculptures complement the collection. Students take part in the management, restoration and mediation of the museum.
