Over het museum
Yvonne Guégan (1915–2005) was a painter and sculptor who lived and worked in Caen. Her work moved from Fauvism through Expressionism to abstraction. In June 1944, after the bombing of Caen, she lost her studio and her works and painted the ruins of the city from life. She also created decorations for churches, schools and public buildings.
Her 1930s-style house on rue Géo-Lefèvre, in the La Nice district, contains her studio on the upper floor and a garden. She lived there until her death and welcomed people who wanted to talk about art. After her death, the house became a place for exhibitions, meetings and workshops.
The Ministry of Culture awarded it the Maison des Illustres label, a first for a woman's house in Normandy. The house now belongs to the City of Caen and is currently closed for works.
