Over het museum

The museum occupies the former powder magazine of La Petite-Pierre, built in 1581 by Georges-Jean de Veldenz, lord of the place. It is an annex of the Musée du Sceau alsacien and shares its website and opening hours with it.

It is devoted to Springerle, small anise-flavoured Christmas biscuits, and to Lebkuchen (gingerbread). The founder and curator, Charles Haudot, gathered hundreds of reproductions of pearwood baking moulds, stemming from the tradition of the woodcarvers known as Modelschnider. Their designs show love, trades, real or imaginary animals, biblical scenes, elegant dress or uniforms.

Furniture, tools and objects of the period, as well as early 20th-century photographs of the village's families, complete the collection. At Christmas, the museum presents traditional decorations and demonstrations of cake-making, with tasting.
