Over het museum

The museum owes its existence to Michel Grézaud, a butcher from Tournus and a passionate cycling enthusiast. From the 1950s he restored an old milk-delivery tricycle and then a penny-farthing (grand-bi) he had found in the attic. He went on tirelessly seeking out and restoring old machines until he had gathered nearly 200 bicycles and more than 7,000 cycling-related parts.

Together with his wife Josette, he first opened a bicycle museum in Cormatin, which operated from 1997 to 2007 before closing for lack of local support. The collection then spent three years in a garage. In 2009 the Town of Tournus and an association of cycling enthusiasts joined forces to give it a new display venue in the town's former starch factory.

Since June 2010 the collection has been shown across three rooms covering about 600 m². Michel Grézaud died before that reopening; the museum now bears his name. It is run by a team of volunteers, in partnership with the collector's family, who own the pieces, and with the Town of Tournus, which owns the premises.
