Over het museum
The museum occupies the former laboratory of physicist Édouard Branly (1844–1940), built in 1932 by architect Paul Tournon on the campus of the Institut catholique de Paris. Branly had taught at the institute since 1875.
It was in this laboratory that he carried out the first wireless telegraphy transmission in 1890. His research covered radiant heat, optics and electricity, and he is best known for his use of radioconductors.
The museum preserves the memory of his work: instruments described in his publications, display cases of apparatus he used, elements of his laboratory, his office, and the room known as the “salle de cuivre” (copper room).
