Over het museum
The Musée-Librairie traces the history of the Compagnonnage, the tradition of craft training. It is located at 10, rue Mabillon in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, in the former headquarters of the Compagnons charpentiers du Devoir de liberté, also called “Indiens”. It is presented by the Compagnons du Tour de France.
Visitors are welcomed by a compagnon, who recounts the history of the tradition, shares his passion for his trade and comments on the tools and masterpieces on display. A bookshop offers works on the Compagnonnage and the trades connected with it.
A plaque on the façade honours Lucien Térion, president of the Compagnons charpentiers du Devoir de liberté in Paris, who died in deportation at Mauthausen in 1945.
